Earthquakes of extreme magnitude are very destructive to both natural and man made structures. Over 800 thousand earthquakes occur annually and fortunately most of them are minor and detected only by seismometers.

While we, in Schoharie County, do not live in an extremely active seismic region, earthquakes of varying orders of magnitude have occurred in the past and continue to do so at present.
